Water Rocks! Live Streaming presentations bring high-energy, high-impact natural resources education programs straight from Iowa State University right to your school, entertaining and engaging students on a wide variety of science topics—ranging from water to wetlands to pollinators and ecosystems.

Water Rocks! Live Streaming virtual presentations will kick off the week of January 13, 2025.

WR! Live Streaming virtual presentations are available for Grades K-12.



Technology Requirements

The #1 most important action item here is ensuring in advance that you have YouTube access at your school. Each Water Rocks! Live Streaming presentation will be presented via a unique YouTube link, exclusive to each class/grade.

Exploring Nature (Grades K-2)

Through stories, songs, and skits, students will learn about Iowa’s natural resources, like water, soil and pollinators, and the importance of working together to protect the world around them.

Watersheds: Unlocking the Secrets to Cleaner Water
(Grades 3-12)

Dive in to exploring watersheds—what exactly they are, how water can become polluted, and positive actions each of us can take to keep local water bodies clean and healthy. Presented via a hybrid news broadcast/variety show format, students are sure to be educated, entertained, and engaged! Live interaction is built in through trivia and virtual scavenger hunts.

The Wonderful World of Wetlands
(Grades 3-12)

Explore the wonderful world of wetlands and the importance of these vibrant ecosystems and the biodiversity they support. The Power of Pollinators
(Grades 3-12)

Presented via a spy-themed mystery format, students will be a-buzz learning about the importance of pollinators around them, the challenges pollinators face, and what we all can do to help! Students are sure to be educated, entertained, and engaged as they work together to sleuth for clues through interactive trivia, video snapshots, and virtual scavenger hunts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Water Rocks! came to our school in the fall. Is this going to be the exact same presentation?

No—and we would love to work with you again! Water Rocks! Live Streaming presentations use different interactive activities and technology-driven approaches to engage with students on natural resources topics. It’s a great opportunity to explore a different topic than you and your students experienced in-person!

If we sign up for Water Rocks! Live Streaming, does that knock us out of the lottery for an in-person visit in the spring?

No—you are still fully eligible for a spring in-person visit. It’s a completely separate lottery request system, with complimentary science content in both delivery mechanisms.

Can you present to multiple classes back-to-back?

Yes, we are happy to! We are able to offer up to six presentations in a single day. Once your presentation date is confirmed, our team members will work with you to solidify a schedule for the day.

We are a big school. Can you present for multiple days?

Yes, please reach out—we may be able to accommodate multiple days of virtual presentations and/or group multiple classes together simultaneously. The virtual format provides a ton of versatility!

 

How do we access the presentation?

WR! team members will email the private YouTube presentation link to each teacher in advance, with the teacher projecting the Water Rocks! presentation to the full class.

Prior to your scheduled Water Rocks! virtual presentation, consider utilizing the resources there to introduce students to the topics that will be covered. We often observe the highest levels of engagement and students gain the most from the program when they’ve had a basic introduction to the material prior to our visit!
